Formation lap is almost over, as you gently push the throttle and swiftly steer left to right one last time, striving to maintain high tire temperatures. You know this is key to getting through the first corner as quickly as possible. It should allow you to get a good start and overtake the two formula cars ahead. They've already taken their grid spots.

Time to lift off the gas and focus on the yellow line marking your grid position. While applying light brake pressure, you endeavor to gain every permitted millimeter, precisely aligning your front wing with the white line defining your spot.

Now you work the steering mounted paddles, disengaging the clutch. Shifting from second to first, your formula car rests motionless.

The first red light of the traffic signal switches on. You've done this before, you remember the routine. Your right foot applies gentle pressure to the gas.

The second red light engages, the engine hits the rev limiter.

The third red light engages as you seek the ideal rpm for a perfect launch.

The fourth red illuminates. Heat shimmers from the cars ahead suggest all drivers are primed for the fight to come.

The fifth red engages. A swift glance at the wheel display confirms all is well.
