The Humane AI Pin and the Rabbit R1 have been the devices at the forefront of criticism as AI hardware has taken a rough start. Many people wondered why AI assistants are standalone devices rather than apps. These are indeed based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and Mishaal Rahman at Android Authority managed to install Rabbit's launcher APK on a Google Pixel 6a, bringing the $199 experience to an old Android phone.
What is a Rabbit R1 APK About?
Following some tinkering, Rahman installed the app on his Pixel smartphone after receiving it from a tipster. Rabbit R1 allowed him to create a rabbithole account, speak to the AI assistant, and proceed through the setup wizard.
However, the report mentions that the Android app was not used to test Spotify integration, Vision, or other Rabbit R1 functionalities. It is supposed to come preinstalled in the AI gadget's firmware and be granted several privileges, according to Rahman. Nonetheless, several functions would likely fail since some of these permissions could not be granted. They confirmed, however, that the app runs on Android smartphones and is compatible with AOSP.
Unofficial app reacts to rabbit
As a result of the development, Rabbit issued a statement from its founder and CEO, Jesse Lyu. In addition, the company posted a statement on its X account (formerly Twitter) stating, "Rabbit R1 is not an Android app.".
Despite the existence of unofficial rabbit OS apps and websites, Rabbit understood that people were eager to test their AI and LAM before receiving their R1. A local unauthorised APK without the proper OS and Cloud endpoints cannot access rabbit OS or LAM, as they run on the cloud with highly customized AOSP and firmware.
According to them, rabbit OS is specifically designed for R1 and they do not endorse third-party clients. A bootlegged APK or webclient carries significant risks; malicious actors publish bootlegged apps that steal your data. Due to this, we recommend that users stay away from bootlegged rabbit OS apps," Rabbit said.
